which way? In or out? North or south?

Ok, tne earthquake in Japan tilted the earth on it's axis for degrees. I got that, but which way? In or out?

    with the way the earth spins on its axis it cannot be moved directionally, north/east/south/west. to my knowledge it tilted "out", closer to the equator.
