fancy guppy gasping for air?

alrighty - i'm going to try and give you all as many details as i can, let me know if you need more.

i have 8 male guppies in a 10 gallon tank. all other seven seems to be doing perfectly fine, it's just this one guppy that just hovers. he's new - i've only had him for 4 days. the first two days he would swim around and have fun, but for the last two days he hasn't really been moving, and nor has he eaten. right now he's moving around nicely, but it looks like he's shivering and gasping for air.

is he on his way out and is there nothing left for me to do? or can i help him out in some way?

it sounds like theres not enough oxygen in the tank. ive read online where gasping for air is a sign of low oxygen. u might want to invest in a air stone. get the stone cuz the wands clog really bad!! plus they add a nice touch to the tank. hope this helped!! good luck!!!

the only fish that could stay to tell the story in a bowl is a betta fish. All different fish want a tank with a filter out and a heater... Guppies stay small, so 5 gallons will carry a team of three or 4 completely.

    1. You are overstocked.

    2. Is he "shimmying" at the surface? As in, swimming in place? Are his fins clamped? If so, he might have Livebearer disease, and infection triggered by poor water quality, due to over stocking.

    3. Do a 40% water change to help with water parameters. Vacuum the gravel well. Do not feed for two days. He might get better.

test the water asap and the chemicals like ph nitrate and nitrite might be off for now i would put him in a fish bowl by him self with the tank water so he has more oxiganated water and more room to swim
