is it OK to rotate the 50mm f/1.4D lens in AF mode?

Just bought a 50mm f/1.4D this morning… When I using autofocus, I still can rotate the focus ring on the lens even though I have to apply some force compare to while I'm using the manual focus mode… the question is that by rotating the focus ring when the lens is in focus (AF mode) will it harm my D7000 focus motor??

Depends, if it is not using an ultrasonic motor rotating the focus ring is a no-no. If it has an ultrasonic motor, you should check if the lens has 'full-time manual focus' which means you can manual focus even if it is on autofocus mode.

If anything it will harm the lens, but the best answer is no. Don't do it. If you get in the habit of doing it with one lens, you will do it with every lens and there are many that you will definitely do damage to.

Some AF-S lenses have this capability, but I would avoid doing so on AF lenses (those that have a screw-drive autofocus shaft that connects to the camera body).
