California Driving test question?

Hey guys....

Yesterday i took the California Driving Test....and frustratingly, i failed -_____-.

Anyway, the instructor wrote down a couple comments about my driving. I felt that i did pretty good, but i made one critical error(I "drove too close to a parked car" and the lady had to intervene).

She also wrote down that I don't "scan at intersections"....umm WHAT!?!?!? WHAT THE F!? I felt that I made it CLEAR to her that i was scanning, but i guess she didn't notice.....She also said that i didn't signal when i was parking(The part where we have to park at a curb. That, I admit, I did not do, but i didn't think that was a critical error). Anyway, i feel with maybe two more weeks of practice, ill be able to pass this thing.

Now, down to the real point of this question. I felt that the car I drove(my driving instructor took me and it was some old *** corolla) was too small for me. I mostly drive my Dad's Toyota Sienna, and I've been doing perfect in that car. Anyway, Will the DMV allow us to drive those types of Vans during the test? Or will i need to drive a smaller car?

And another question, about the signaling while curb parking. Is it a critical error if i forget to do that? There was no one around at the time at that point of the test, and I was continuously looking over my should and my mirrors and everything.

Thanks!

I saw someone drive a van for their test so Im certain you can drive your van too.

Signal when you turn, always. Like, if you are getting onto the road or pulling over, etc. No, it's not a critical error, i forgot to signal like 3-4 times.

I also had the same problem about scanning the intersection that you are having, i did scan but she always marked me down and i felt like she wasn't even looking.

You have to turn your head 80 degrees to the left, right and then left again at each intersection. When you stop at a light check all sides of the intersection and the mirrors.

When you are driving in residential areas and there's parked cars on the sides, drive in the middle of the road if there's no other cars, that way there's plenty of room.

A critical error would be something you can get a ticket for. Like not stopping behind the white line, running a red light, running a stop sign, driving on the wrong lane, etc.

It probably wont take you two weeks to get enough practice, maybe just a day or two.

EDIT: I mean drive in the middle of the road if its a narrow road. You might want to slow down while doing so if you can't see ahead of you. But be sure to give parked cars as much room as possible while staying in your lane if possible.

You may take the passenger vehicle driving road test in any Class "C" vehicle, including your dad's Sienna, if it is available. If you feel more confident driving that ask your dad if you can use it.

As for signaling the 2011 California Driver Handbook states (on Page 45) that one of the occasions when you MUST signal is: "Before pulling next to the curb (parking) or away from the curb".
