Why do I feel paranoid and crushingly afraid sometimes? Do you?

sometimes when I'm alone, and/or it's nighttime, I get these feelings and thoughts that are so paranoid and terrifying, I feel like crying, running to my parents, hauling the sun back up to the Earth, etc. I'm truly afraid of alien abdduction, as I've spotted what I believe to be the "probe" classification of UFO's multiple times. I'm afraid of crazy serial killers. I'm afraid of little bugs, and psychological disorders which would cause me or my family to kill us all. For the past hour, I have been unexplainably terrified and unable to look at the ceiling... or behind me. I need someone to hug, but it's the middle of the night. I need light, but I still know it's dark outside. I have the tv and computer on, but even all the distractions in the world keep me terrified and paranoid. I hear random noises at night. thuds. these states of paranoia and terrified-ness last sometimes for hours. I can't fall asleep. I'm afraid of everything. I feel like crying. does this happen to you? why is this happening?

This is anxiety and/or panic disorder.

When something is wrong or dangerous, an alarm goes off in your brain to let you know. When you have an anxiety disorder, this alarm goes off for no reason. Since there isn't a reason, your brain makes up a weird fear to explain it.

Tell your parents. This is a treatable condition and is fairly common. You'll be ok. :)

Source(s): I was diagnosed with this when I was 10 or so.

dude, don't worry. About a year ago, WHENEVER I hear something happen downstairs, I thought it was a kidnapper, a murder, a rapist, or a conivct. Whenever I saw a stinkbug in my room, I would get it out, but minutes later, I always used to check allover my body because I thought they were on me, from being paranoid. You are also depressed? right? You don't have a huge amount of friends? Simple. You scare yourself so much, your brain triggers your ears to cause delusions. At the same time, I was hearing 2 old women whisper outside my window. You might have watched a scary movie too? When I used to watch scary movies I would check bind my back about every 30 seconds because I though the protaganist was behind me. Truth is, just ignore it and see a doctor. If they give you medicine, DO NOT take it. It will cause you to have delusions of ghosts, shadows, make your hair fall out, etc. Just...chill....
