Ebay has improved in their reliability. All you have to do is make sure the seller has at least 97% feedback, preferably 100%.

This company makes the best power supplies you can buy. The one that came in your HP was and AcBel brand. Probably junk. They buy parts from the lowest bidder most of the time. Go with seasonic. Its "plus bronze certified" meaning the power efficancy is great. And its a little higher wattage so it won't have to work as hard and will last even longer.
