24 week glucose test question!?

I had my monthly doc appointment today and was told that next week (my 24rd week) I need to do the glucose test. I was told not to eat anything the day I go starting at midnight! I don't know if i could do that I get so hungry so fast! Any tips? How bad is this test; what was the test like for the mommies out there!?

    24 Week Glucose Test

DONT try to dodge this test and DONT try to get around the restriction on eating after midnight.

I didnt much like the glucose tollerance test, BUT it did diagnose my severe diabetes, without that test neither my baby or I would have survived the pregnancy, I needed 5 insulin injections a day for the duration of the pregnancy (I was tested at 18 weeks and my daughter was born at 32 weeks gestation), the diabetes went away literally the SECOND that my daughter was born but came back in the 11th week of my next pregnancy.

Gestational diabetes can be very dangerous, when its severe, like mine was, it can cause the death of the mother and baby. In less severe cases it can usually be controlled by diet. Uncontrolled it can cause, amongst other things, the baby to be born overweight making delivery difficult. After delivery babys born to mothers who have GDM need to have their sugar levels tested regularly for the first few days to make sure that the excess sugar theyve received via the placenta hasnt caused problems with their own inulin production.

The test is unpleasant at worse but not having the test done can have reppercussions that are catestrophic.

I was told that I could eat for my test, but I chose not to because sometimes eating certain foods can affect the results. I took the test early in the morning, so when I woke up I went straight to the doctor's, and then after I drank the glucose I was sick & not hungry anymore anyway :) Different tests require different methods though, so if your doctor told you not to eat, don't eat. The test isn't bad; they make you drink glucose drink then draw your blood after an hour (if it's the 1 hour test). The glucose is nasty, but that's the worst part. I had to take the 3 hour too and neither were too bad!

What?! I wasn't given any eating restrictions. It's a pretty easy test. After my regular prenatal check up I was given this awful orange drink which I had to drink completely in less than 5 minutes. Seems easy but it's really sugary! The worst part was hanging around in the waiting room for an hour. You can't leave the office, not even to kill time (I guess because you could eat or do something to impact the results). After an hour they take your blood - simple blood test. And that's it.

Seriously though, just eat before you go. Stay awake from things that are sugary and could spike your blood sugar. But if you have no issues and don't have gestational diabetes it won't matter since eating won't change the results.

My care provider only had me fast for part of the day - I forget how many hours now but I was able to have breakfast. I was hungry but it wasn't too bad. Some women report getting a little nauseated from the drink - it is pretty sweet. I personally didn't. It was like drinking Koolaid or something. Sweet, but tolerable. Then you have to wait awhile. I brought a snack so as soon as they took my blood I started eating!

I'm not going to lie the drink is horrid. I only had to fast for an hour so I can't help you there but the drink made me feel very sick. While getting my blood drawn I passed out, threw up all over myself then started having convulsions :/ Certain doctors at my clinic still know me solely by that incident.

They will make you drink a disgusting sugary drink then wait a while and draw some blood.
