How much recess does your child get?

My daughter is in first grade and they get one 30 minute recess a day. The rest of the day is spent in the class room at a desk (from 830 until 3). I think that kids her age need more recess. I understand that school isnt all about fun and games, but these are 6 yr olds, you cant expect them to sit still at a desk all day and do school work. They also get about 30-40 minutes of homework every day. Im just curious if all schools do it this way.

Seriously?! My schools recess in primary school were like 20 mins in the morning and an hour at lunch. Secondary school we had a 15 min recess and a 45-50 min lunch. I live in Australia and this was common throughout most of our schools. School was from 9 to 3:30, although some finished earlier 'cause of the bus time table.

There's not much you can do though, except change your daughter's schools.

From what I hear from other parents this is common for first grade. Even some kindergarten too.

I totally agree with you say too.

One of the many many many reasons we homeschool.
