  • How much recess does your child get?

My daughter is in first grade and they get one 30 minute recess a day. The rest of the day is spent in the class room at a desk (from 830 until 3). I think that kids her age need more recess. I understand that school isnt all about fun and games, but these are 6 yr olds, you cant expect them to sit still at a desk all day and do school work. They also get about 30-40 minutes of homework every day. Im just curious if all schools do it this way.

  • Have you ever used a 2 in 1 swing/bouncer?

I am looking into buying a 2 in 1 swing/bouncer but I wanted to get some feedback. If you had one, did you like it? I looked up reviews online, but they are mixed so I wanted to see what anyone on here had to say about it. Or even if you had another swing that you really liked, Id like to hear about it.

  • Did you circumcise your son?

If you did, what was your experience with it? Did your baby seem traumatized or did it seem like it didnt even phase him? Did you have a bad experience afterwards?

  • Your opinion on my tough decision?

I have a 2 yr old lab mix who has always been eager to please my husband and I. She follows basic commands and for the most part she is a good dog. She is not aggressive towards anyone in my family but she is aggressive towards anyone that comes in our house or if they approach me on a walk. By aggressive I mean that she will bark and growl at them but has never actually bit anyone til the other day. For some reason, she HATES my neighbors dog. The other day she got out and went straight for my neighbors dog. The other dog did not provoke this in any way, she was minding her own business sitting in her yard with her owners. My dog visciously attacked the other dog, breaking her leg, and in the process bit the other dog's owner when he was trying to break them up. Many people have told me that once she has tasted blood there is no changing her and that I should get rid of her. I feel like I should give the dog another chance. I am enrolling her in extensive training and putting up a fence. Do you think I am doing the right thing or should I get rid of her?

  • What is a good consequence for this?

I have an almost 4 yr old daughter. Today we were at a pond feeding ducks and when she was done she threw her bag that the bread was in, in the water. The wind blew it so I could not catch it in time to get it out. I want to give her a consequence that fits the crime. Obviously taking away toys would not fit this. I thought about having her pick up trash but honestly I think she would enjoy that. What would you do if your child did this? I understand its not a serious "crime" but I dont want her to think its okay to throw your trash down.

  • Am I being overly paranoid?

A few days ago my daughter and I (and our dogs of course) went to a dog park. While we were there, this man was taking pics of his dog. Before he left he approached me and told me that while he was taking pics of his dog, my daughter happened to get in the pictures. He asked me if I would like him to email them to me and not even thinking about it I gave him my email (Im beating myself up over it now!). When he sent me the pictures there were some pictures of ONLY my daughter, one is a close up of her face, and a few others the dog is in the picture but my daughter is clearly the main focus of the picture. The man was older and seemed harmless and was with a woman (which I know doesnt make him harmless). When he was taking the pics I thought my daughter may be in the pic, but he was always appearing to be pointing the camera at his dog. What really alarms me is he asked if I planned on going to the park tomorrow. Am I being overly paranoid or do I have reason to freak? Either way, I dont plan on going back to that park. My daughter is 3 by the way.

  • If a baby tooth dies, is it necessary to get it pulled out?

Im asking this in the parenting section because Im sure there are other parents out there that have dealt with this. My daughter hit her mouth really hard in the same spot, not once but twice. It caused bleeding around the tooth that was hit and the tooth is a little bit looser than the others. We went to the dentist who was only concerned if an abcess grew, but at the time her tooth was not discoloring. Now it is starting to discolor, the gums around it look fine, just the tooth is discoloring. Is it important to get this pulled out, or will it just fall out on its own? She is 3 by the way.

  • Anatomy and Physiology help?

If a person is burned and the burn covers 30% of the trunk area (front and back) and 40% of the arms and legs, what percentage of the total body surface has been burned. just as a side note: arms and legs account for 54% of the total body surface, and the trunk accounts for 36%. Please show your work so that I can figure out how to calculate this. Thank you!

  • If your child has ever been given nitrous oxide?

did it give them a bloody nose? My daughter had to be given nitrous oxide to have some dental work done and afterwards she got a really bad bloody nose. The dentist was sure it was not because of the nitrous oxide, but my daughter has never had a bloody nose before so its hard for me to believe that. I know that a bloody nose isnt the end of the world, but it was a really really bad one. My daughter is 3 by the way. Has anyone else had a bad experience with nitrous oxide?

  • My dog squirts, is this normal?

I have a 7-8 month old lab mix who is pretty much potty trained. She will not intentionally go on the floor, but sometimes its like she tries to hold it and when shes walking, pee just squirts out of her. Sometimes she notices it but most of the time she has no idea what happened. I let her out every time she tells me she has to go so its not like she is forced to hold it for long periods of time. Is this normal or should I take her to the vet?

  • How long does it take a dog to regrow hair?

I have a 4 yr old min pin who recently had demodex. Last week the vet checked her again and found no more mites, but he had to do a skin scrape which gave her 2 bald spots (actually I should say, made her bald spots worse). How long does it normally take for the hair to grow back to normal?

  • Moms: do you feel the same way?

I have a 3 yr old daughter who I have stayed home with since she was born. She recently started going to preschool twice a week, which is nice for me because I can run errands by myself. But I dont always get everything done that I want to, then I feel bad if I have to ask someone to babysit her. I feel guilty for two reasons: one being it may burdon the person, and two I feel guilty for taking "time off" so to speak. My husband is deployed so he cannot watch her. Does anyone else feel guilty having someone babysit? Oh and I should also mention, I do not pay the people who watch her, they are either relatives or friends that say they dont want money.

  • How to get rid of a rust spot on a car?

I noticed I have a tiny rust spot on my car. It is really small, but I fear that the paint will continue to chip off (it is on the door jam) and get bigger. I have a paint touch up pen, would that work? or would it just rust through? What is the best way to get rid of it?

  • what is the best way to make a dog stay?

I have a lab mix puppy who is eager to learn, she will sit and lay down and leave something (for example if I put a treat in front of her and tell her to leave it, she will) but I cant seem to get her to stay. when someone comes over she jumps all over them and tries to run out the door. Ive been doing clicker training which works really well, but again, she wont stay, if I just move a step away she gets up. what is the best way to teach a dog to stay?

  • Has your child watched the Elmo deployment movie?

If so, how did they react to it? My 3 yr old watched it and it seemed like it hurt more than it helped, she is sad that her daddy is gone, but it almost seemed like watching the movie made her feel worse. Did anyone elses child experience this? Or maybe its just setting in that hes going to be gone for a long time. (he left about a month and a half ago)

  • Period question: Is this normal?

When you are on your period, is it normal for the blood to sometimes come out in clots? The clots are sometimes very small but have also been about the size of a quarter. Has this happened to you before? Before you tell me to see a doctor, I already have an appointment.

  • Why does it say to consult a doctor if you have thyroid disease?

On a lot of antihistamine and sinus medications it says to consult your doctor if you have thyroid disease. What is the reason for this? I have hypothyroid and a bad cold so I need to take something so I can sleep. I know this is a question I should ask my doctor (and I intend to when I see her on Monday) but is it dangerous for me to take sinus medication?
