If Israel is to be a strictly Jewish state, what is to become of the Christian holy sites?

Christian holy sites in Israel obviously have their parishes, and are not simply historical religious monuments. The Israeli demand that the state be recognized as purely Jewish, certainly must have its implications upon the non-Jewish minorities within the state. Therefore, besides Muslims and their holy sites, what status would that of the Christian minority and its holy sites and places of worship be? This, knowing already that non-Jewish citizens of Israel are second class citizens. And, would that still be the same state with whom America's ties and relations are "inseparable"?

Israel is a Jewish state in character although there are Christians and Druze there but they dont have all the rights of Jewish citizens including the Arab members of the Knesset. One female member was kicked out because she participated in a freedom flotilla. Israel is essentially Jewish. The Christian holy sites are in the West Bank as are the Muslim mosques. The Al Aqsa mosque is off limits to young Muslims, each Friday the Israeli army prevents them from Friday prayers. Through 60 years of war between the Pals and Israelis the Christian holy sites have been taken care of. That wont change even if the Pals got a state.

What Israel demands is the recognition that they have the right to exist and all Arab League members have done that except for the Hamas which is a government in exile in Gaza and I say, it is written and can be changed after there is agreement on the issues. It might make Hamas look weak if they removed that language from their charter. I dont know.

Deary me. Israel is a legal Jewish State with a Jewish government and a Jewish majority.

When was the last time you heard of any problems between the state and the Christian holy sites?

The Israel is the only country in the middle east who allow other religions to practice in peace.

    So stop worrying"

I don't think there's any insinuation as to what would happen regarding the religious minorities in the country, and certainly no insinuations regarding access to Christian or Muslim holy sites. The push for the country to be recognized as a real Jewish state is entirely superficial, the country has never and has never made any claims to want to impose any measure of religious preference to any single group. Everyone can practice equally, everyone has equal access to the country, regardless of race, ethnicity, or religion. That is very much unlike the countries around Israel, many of which practice religious intolerance to such an extent that certain sects of Muslims are even killed in the streets. But it's odd that you'd talk about Israel instead of addressing these countries. Apparently, Israel matters most.

FYI, The holiest Christian site is Bethlehem but you can't get into it now! Why, because that's in the disputed Palestinian area and the Muslims won't allow it. The Jews have always been tremendously respectful of other holy sites in Israel besides theirs. They don't allow non-Muslim events around Muslim holy sites during their religious observances. They actually refused to take one site, even though they could, during a battle with Muslims BECAUSE it was a Muslim holy site and they might shed blood on it.

So I think it is quite safe to say that Christian holy sites will be much better respected under Jewish rule than Palestinian.

PS: There are non-Jews in their equivalent of Congress... including Muslims so your claim of second class citizen status for non-Jews is totally baseless.

Shhhhh, we don't talk about that. It's only the Muslims they seem to have an issue with.

    Strange? I say it is.

I think that area should be the World's....make it the Centre of those three Religions and just agree to be respectful to one and other....kinda like their religions require them to be with other people.

Simplistic? Sure- but it IS something that can be accomplished.

Walrus wants to know why Jews can have a state but Christians can't.
