One Piece: How is Pell alive in the latest episode?

Didn't he sacrifice himself with the bomb in the Alabasta arc?

    At the end of the Alabasta arc it showed Pell walking out of a tent, and showed him heading to the castle. He didn't die from the bomb, because it's One Piece, and people rarely die in One Piece.

    He can fly. So I suppose he went extra high and dropped it and then evaded.
