What happened to spinelli? ?

He took a bullet in order to save Maxi and bc the room was being held hostage no one was allowed to give him medical attention/ Now he's undergone a huge personality shift and he believes himself to be the P.I. from an old movie.

Most miss his computer expertise/

He was shot by Lisa Niles (in the abdomen) while protecting Maxie. Ever since he's woken up he's been different (even by Spinelli's standards) he's gone into this 1940's private investigator mode who calls himself "Jackal PI" he doesn't know how to use a computer, he also thinks as women as sex objects, he remembers things as facts but has no emotional connection to anything prior to the shooting.

Jackal PI keeps going on about how he's lost all these "people" (he didnt say who they were) and that he can't lose anyone else, that's why he doesnt want any emotional attachments. Its almost as if Spinelli has DID (Dissacotive Intergrative Disorder) and "Jackal PI" is an alter who has come out to protect Spinelli. Usually DID is brought on by a traumatic experience, I think he's witnessed his parents murdered and it explains a lot of things.

The first thing it explains is his almost obsessive need to be a "man of action" if he saw his parents murdered as a child that would make him feel helpless, and now as an adult he wants to protect the people in his lives (Maxie, Jason, Sam) and prove that he can be a "man of action"

The second thing it explains is how he latches on and is so desperately protective of those few people in his life, he lost the two most important people in his life so he doesn't want to re-visit that again, so thats why hes so quick to guard those few in his life.

In a lot of ways Sonny and Spinelli are a lot alike in that they both have been subjected to traumatic events as kids, the big difference is how they handle it- Sonny mobs up and has goons to give him power whereas Spinelli doesnt use violence but will use his body as a human shield to protect those in his life.
