Do Navy ribbons carry over to the Marine Corps?

If someone serves in the Navy then they go over to the Marine Corps, do they get to keep the ribbons they earned in the Navy?

Also, I've heard of a ribbon Navy corpsmen get for combat action with a Marine Corps unit which includes the eagle, globe and anchor on the ribbon itself. If such a corpsman then became a Marine and that ribbon carried, he (assuming women can't be corpsmen for combat units) might be the only Marine with an EGA on a ribbon.

(I got to thinking about this after Peter's question "What's the maximum number of Marine Corps emblems a Marine can theoretically have on his uniform?")

I've never heard of an EGA on a ribbon before. Where are you getting this from? There's the Combat Action Ribbon which can be awarded to USMC/USN personnel who've actively participated in combat, if that's what you're talking about...

Navy Corpsmen attached to Marine units wear USMC service uniforms and utilities with Navy insignia and designations.

Generally, once you earn a ribbon, commendation, etc, they aren't taken away unless you screwed up big time.

EDIT: Peter, could you find a picture of that ribbon with the device? I've never seen one like it. And besides, the website you've referred to is a list of by-laws of the Percy John Fulton Detachment of the Marine Corps League.

EDIT 2: Ah, I've found it. Interesting. But, my answer still holds as the Fleet Marine Force Combat Operation Insignia (which is an EGA) is not authorized to be attached to a Combat Action Ribbon (which is what the asker is referring to).

I think so. I think it's viceversa that doesn't quite go.

@Iceman: Take a look at http://semperfi1075.org/bylaws.htm Section 4 Paragraph a: US Navy Corpsman who have earned the Marine Corps Device (Clasp) worn on the Service Ribbon and those who earned the Warfare Device authorized for FMF Corpsman shall be eligible for Regular membership.

There's an old book at your library that shows you that ribbon. It was written by a retired colonel and a civilian, if I remember correctly.

Generally most awards and decorations transfer over

    Except service specific decorations.

IE: like the Navy E ribbon

All the ribbons are the same besides the ribbons you get for expert on the pistol/rifle range
