What's the meaning of "out there" as in "How are you getting along out there"?

Obviously this "out" does not mean "outside." Does it suggest some sort of distance suggesting that you and I are separated?

In your sentence, " out there " means : " in that place. "

Your sentence does not suggest that you and I separated maritally. But it does mean that you and I are separated geographically ( i.e., there is a considerable physical distance between us ).
