Does this mean the batter is out?

He hitted the ball into the foul ball area. When a batter hits a foul ball, the person catches and the batter is out. So.. what about the catcher that catch the ball after the batter hit it behind the plate? See the video...

    From the rule book:

    Rule 2.00

A CATCH is the act of a fielder in getting secure possession in his hand or glove of

a ball in flight and firmly holding it; providing he does not use his cap, protector, pocket or any other part of his uniform in getting possession.

dawgdays, perhaps you need to re-read the definition of FOUL TIP in Rule 2.00. In part, it says: "A FOUL TIP is a batted ball that goes sharp and direct from the bat to the catcher's hands and is legally caught..."

Two problems with that. The ball did not go to the catcher's hands, it went to his mask. And the ball most certainly was not legally caught, as using part of the uniform to catch the ball is a violation of the rules. (See Rule 2.00 CATCH.)

This is a FOUL BALL and not a FOUL TIP. The batter is not out, regardless of how many strikes there were. If there were less than two strikes, then the batter is charged with a strike. If there were two strikes, the batter stays alive.

Since the pitch was fouled straight back, and touched something other than the band or glove first, then it's a foul ball. See 2.00 FOUL TIP. It is NOT a fly ball.

That's not an out, you are only allowed to catch the ball with your glove.
