Are UK and EU visas required for Malaysians?
I'm going to the UK and to Germany, Paris and Spain pretty soon. I have a Malaysian passport and am currently living in Australia (on a permanent residency) and had originally thought Malaysians could travel around UK and the EU without a visa if they're on holiday and are going for just a short while. I just wanted to clarify if I have this right as someone recently told me it wasn't so? I tried looking online at official consulate websites for this info but they're not very clear about it and the consulates are also hard to get hold of on the phone! Any accurate, specific info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Citizen of Malaysia are exempt from the visa requirement to 25 European countries forming the Schengen zone.

You can stay for up to 90 days totally in Germany, France and Spain. On arrival at the first of these countries you will pass immigration control and you will need to show your Malaysian passport and should hold a proof of onward travel to a country outside of the Schengen zone; you also might be asked to show access to sufficient funds to cover your stay [i.e. €64.14 per day in Spain]. Once you have passed the immigration inspection an entry stamp will be affixed to your passport which documents that you may stay for up to 90 days from the date of entry. For further travel within the Schengen area you will not pass any immigration officers any more since there are no longer internal border controls between the countries for land travel or passport controls by immigration officers for air travel. The next time you will see an immigration officer is when you depart from the Schengen zone to a country outside of Schengen (U.K. or Australia). In this case you will pass exit immigration inspection and an exit stamp will be added to your passport to document that you (hopefully) have left before your granted stay of 90 days.

Malaysian passport holders are also exempt from the visa requirement as tourists in the United Kingdom for a stay of up to six months. A U.K. Border Agency officer will decide for how long you may stay. Again you need to show your intends to leave the country and that you are financially capable to cover the costs of stay.
