Why can't I access a website?
I'm trying to access a website from my computer. It's a website I've visited lots of time but lately I've been getting a message saying Problem Loading Page and server not found. I haven't typed the address wrong because I've been accessing it from the Google search page too. I'm able to access the site from other computers. I've tried accessing it from a different browser on my computer and get a similar message saying Internet Explorer could not find the website. Any suggestions? Thanks!
2 AnswersProgramming & Design9 years agoI'm having a hard time being sympathetic toward my friend and her problems?
I have a friend who is going through a hard time, separating from her husband, who can be quite a difficult and occasionally aggressive person, while trying to maintain custody of their child. But I can't seem to find myself wholly sympathetic with her. Part of this is because I know her to be an aggressive person herself (though obviously this does NOT excuse him being aggressive toward her). Also partly because in the past, it always felt as if she wasn't there for me when things were going right with her husband; she wouldn't be interested in putting an effort into meeting up or being there for me on important occasions where it would have meant a lot to me if she had been present. She'd only call me and our other friends, hysterical and crying, every time she had a problem with her husband, then disappear on us when things are resolved again. I used to get quite angry and resentful with her for the way she treated me, eventually I learned to just accept that this is the kind of friend she is, and I shouldn't expect things from her that she obviously isn't prepared or willing to give, and that helped me to stop resenting her and kept our friendship intact. For a while, I just tried to stay away from her because it didn't feel like the friendship was going anywhere. But I didn't want to break it off completely because I do remember the good times we used to share. Now she calls me every so often with stories of how hard it is for her, getting a separation from her husband and being a single mother. It is hard and I do sympathise with her, but I also find myself rolling my eyes and thinking, 'oh, her and her problems again.' Also I sometimes feel she tends to make a martyr of herself, because of the self-satisfied tone of voice she uses as she describes to me the things he's done to her. I feel bad that I can't be as sympathetic with her as I'd like to be, rather than thinking, 'omg, here she goes again, always with her problems,' when she is obviously in a bad situation. I would really like to be able to sympathise and empathise with her, but I just can't bring myself to. Any tips/advice on what I can do?
6 AnswersFriends9 years agoCan someone tell me about the grape harvest in Spain?
I'm trying to do a bit of research on the grape harvest in Spain. In short, I'd like to know:
1) Around what time of the year does the harvest begin?
2) How long does harvest season last? From what I've been reading, it could be anywhere as short as two days to three weeks? What kind of conditions determine how long harvesting grapes would take?
3) I understand grape picking takes place early in the morning. Is that true? And for how late in the day does the picking go on for? I was reading on a grape harvest blog that it goes on for the whole day but I've also read that grape picking actually stops around noon when the day starts getting hot.
4) Do grape pickers get involve in other activities of wine harvesting besides picking grapes, such as sorting and crushing the grapes? And how long does that take?
Thanks!
1 AnswerBeer, Wine & Spirits9 years agoShould I use 'had been' vs 'was' in this sentence?
The sentence:
Carolyn had been having a bad day even before the comet hit Earth.
or
Carolyn was having a bad day even before the comet hit Earth.
At the moment, I'm leaning towards 'was', rather than 'had been', just because it makes the sentence look stronger and tighter than 'had been having', but I'm still not quite sure. All these past present tenses and stuff always make my head spin :S Please help me make the spinning go away!
Thanks in advance for all your help!
4 AnswersWords & Wordplay9 years agoAre UK and EU visas required for Malaysians?
I'm going to the UK and to Germany, Paris and Spain pretty soon. I have a Malaysian passport and am currently living in Australia (on a permanent residency) and had originally thought Malaysians could travel around UK and the EU without a visa if they're on holiday and are going for just a short while. I just wanted to clarify if I have this right as someone recently told me it wasn't so? I tried looking online at official consulate websites for this info but they're not very clear about it and the consulates are also hard to get hold of on the phone! Any accurate, specific info would be much appreciated. Thanks!
1 AnswerPacking & Preparation10 years agoHow best to pack for backpacking in Europe and what kind of bag is most secure?
I'm going to backpack around Europe later this year, we're going to do it mainly by trains, using an Eurorail pass, and by feet! So I'll need to pack a backpack but not sure (a)what should I pack and (b) what kind of backpack is best. Also, I'll be traveling round September/October, any idea what the weather is like then?
My main worries are that I don't want to pack too heavy a bag cuz I'll be dragging it around and am also worried about security, I've been told about thieves cutting into your bag from behind as you walk and someone told me to use a bike chain to secure my bag if I leave it at a hostel for a day. What's the best bag/backpack to carry around that's lightweight and thief-proof? And for those who've backpacked, what things did you bring? Backpackers seem to carry huge bags that look so heavy! Thanks for all the tips, guys xx
2 AnswersPacking & Preparation10 years agoex-boyfriend diagnosed with bipolar and threatening suicide?
I'm not sure what to do. I've been getting calls from my ex, saying he has been diagnosed with bipolar, and also threatening suicide if I don't get back with him. I know such suicide threats are a form of emotional blackmail but I'm also worried as he has been diagnosed with bipolar. I don't want him to harm himself but I'm not sure what to say on the phone to him to keep him from hurting himself. I want to be firm with him and make it clear that we are never going to get back together so that he can move on but I'm worried that if I do that, I might push him over the edge. Can someone please tell me what to do?
22 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoWhat does it feel like when blood runs into your eyes?
Weird question, I know, but am curious, if you've ever been cut in the forehead or something and blood drips into your eyes, what does it feel like? Does it sting, etc., like sweat or something? Is it hard to wipe it away? Thanks in advance ;)
1 AnswerOther - Diseases1 decade agoHow to reformat Toshiba A300?
So I've created the three recovery disks using the Recovery Disc Creator on my laptop. Now I know that if I want to reformat my laptop, I have to turn on the computer and hit either F2 or F12, then I get into some section where there are categories, i.e. Boot. I go onto Boot and it has a list: HDD1, HDD1, CD, DVD, etc. I'm not really sure where to go from there. Do I insert disc 1 and just hope for the best or what? Need serious help here! Thanks!
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoPersonal training courses in Australia?
I live in Perth and am thinking about getting a cert in personal training. I thought at first of doing the 8-week course at the Australian Institute of Fitness but after a lil research, I found a lot of people have rubbished it, saying it is too expensive, is looked down upon in the fitness industry and does not prepare you properly for a career as a PT. TAFE seems the best choice but I'll have to wait until June for the next intake. Can anyone suggest something for me? I found the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers online but there doesn't seem to be much info on the kind of courses they offer or whether they're a decent institute or just trying to make a quick buck off personal trainer wannabes. Can anyone let me know about this or suggest any courses I can take? Thanks heaps in advance
4 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoHow can I run quietly on a treadmill?
I run outdoors all the time but just joined a gym and started running on the treadmills cuz its winter. Also learnt not to grip the handles on treadmills cuz it's apparently less effective :) When I begin walking on the treadmill, there's no noise but when I start picking up the pace, I find I'm constantly making a banging noise when I come down with my feet and I'm the loudest person there on the treadmills! I try to make sure I'm not pounding down hard with my feet, etc but it doesn't seem to stop the banging noise. Other than maybe one or two other people, no one else has this problem. What can I do to soften my running on a treadmill? Is it a technique thing? Thanks for your help!

1 AnswerGeography1 decade agoName of an old fantasy show?
I'm trying to find the name of this fantasy show I saw ages ago. I only caught the end of it. I think it was about a skeptical man who didn't believed in supernatural things and he was sent to this magic-ish place. When I switched on the TV, there was a sick boy named Never. Two blonde little girls dressed identically were at the ocean, calling Never's name and the skeptical man was refusing to believe this would help the sick boy but then he gave in and went into the surf and called Never too and the boy got better. There was also a princess or some such whom I think the skeptical man was in love with. There was also a troll who was a jailkeeper and he was in love with a White Lady. The skeptical man left this magic place soon after, saying there was a promise two fairies(?) had given him that there will be a surprise awaiting him the next time he returned. At the end of the show, he narrates, saying his friends say he is crazy to go back but all he can say is he has learnt not to be afraid of the dark or some such. He returns to this place and as he gets out of his carriage, he also sees another version of himelf getting out of the carriagel and I assume he is there to watch how his first visit went all over again. The show end there. If anyone can tell me the name of that show, that'll be so awesome, I keep wondering what it is! Thanks!
1 AnswerOther - Television1 decade agoName of German film noir?
I saw this show on the SBS foreign channel a couple of years back and I really like it but can't remember its title. It's a film noir and I think it was German. The leading actress was of Vietnamese ethnicity. It was set in the future, a bit George Orwell-Big Brother-ish. Smoking was prohibited and smokers would congregate underground; in one scene, there was a raid on the smokers. There was a hot dog vendor who used to be the president of the biggest bank when there were banks (or something like that). The leading actress was part of a TV company, I think they were vying for domination of the media with another company and there were plans to have this game show on where you could win a lot of money or get electrocuted to death if you answer the wrong question. The head of the leading actress's TV company was shot and she had to try to find out who killed him and why. And, strangely, at the end of the show, it seemed that some of the humans were aliens and the leading actress was an alien herself. There was also a psychic TV show featuring a psychic cannibal and a female host, a very Dita Von Teese-type, who was in love with the cannibal. Sounds weird but it was actually a really interesting show! Can anyone help me find out what the name of this show is? Thanks heaps!
1 AnswerMovies1 decade agoHow to keep from transferring viruses from old to new laptop?
I've just got a new laptop and want to transfer all my stuff from the old laptop over to the new one. I'm probably going to install avast or avg antivirus first on the new one. The old laptop has a couple of quarantined viruses (one is a trojan, I think) on it. Will the avast/avg antivirus keep the viruses on the old laptop from getting on the new one when I transfer all my stuff over? What is the best way to prevent the viruses from coming over? Or how do I find the items who are infected and delete them? Thanks!

1 AnswerTiVO & PVRs1 decade agoNissan bluebird on fuel consumption?
Am thinking of buying a used 1997 Nissan Bluebird SSS. but I'm worried about fuel consumption, especially with prices these days. What do you think?
3 AnswersNissan1 decade agoHow do I calculate fuel prices?
For example, if the fuel price at the gas station is $1.50 a litre and I need to fill up a car that consumes 10L/100km, how much would I be paying and how do I calculate this? I am completely clueless on how gas prices work for a motorist so any help is appreciated! Thanks!
4 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoA suitable eye cream?
I'm looking for an eye cream that'll work for me.
I'm 23 and I wear make up, especially eyeliner, everyday, I also wear contacts so as you can guess the skin around my eyes suffers a bit more than most other people! I try to take care by drinking lots of water, removing make up gently and trying not touch the area round my eyes more than necessary.
But what i really want to know is what would be the best eye creams to use to take care of my eyes and also prevent future damage like sunscreen? Both cheap and pricey creams? Also, I heard vaseline works just as well as any eye cream. Is that true?
6 AnswersMakeup1 decade agoHow can I get rid of an envelope with an A on it that is showing up on my TV screen?
There is a small white envelope with an A on it showing up on the right top corner of my tv screen. The envelope only shows up on one channel. I'm using a Sanyo CP14SW1Z TV (an old TV, i know) and an LG GC990W vcr and have gone through both manuals and even called the Sanyo and LG helplines (LG says it sounds like a TV thing, Sanyo isn't answering my calls). I urgently need to get rid of this envelope icon and have even googled it but can't find any references to this. Any ideas what this is and how to get rid of it?
