What is a good book of the bible to study for a new christian?
I have a close friend who recently became a christian who has a little bit of knowledge of the bible and we have started to do bible studies together. I can't decide if we should study Jesus life or some of paul's letters first. Which book of the bible do you think would be the best to start off with and why?

The Gospel of John is recommended as the ideal place to start reading. It chronicles the life, ministry, and teachings of Jesus, and John himself mentions that he recorded these events so that others would believe in Jesus. After John, continue on with Acts which tells the story of the early church and it's growth. Then, I'd recommend just reading through the epistles and finish the New Testament. The epistles will give great teaching on how to live the Christian life, it explains in great detail the significance of Jesus death and resurrection, and it provides comfort and encouragement for our daily challenges.

The best books to begin with for a new Christian are the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). They all teach about Jesus and who He is, His commands that we are to follow, and His promises to all His followers. The other two books in the Bible I would recommend for Bible study are the Psalms and Proverbs. The book of Psalms teaches about humility toward God and about following God's Word and the Proverbs teach about knowing the difference between wisdom and foolishness.

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John is the best place to start. Also read Proverbs and Psalms. I will include some guides for you so you can print them out. (See Links Below) They can be very useful as you study especially if you want to set goals for yourself as you read. You can read 1-5 chapters a day depending on how much time you want to put into your study? I have also included a bible study tools as well so have a look and see what fits your own schedule. If you study all that pertains to salvation in the NT before being converted to Christ.....you would not be asking what to study next.
It is obvious you did not study the bible to see what God has to say about what you need to do to be saved/ born again. If you were not biblically baptized then your salvation is invalid to God.
If we want to become christians according to God's Word then we have to do so stricly by the bible.
Your baptism has to follow Jesus' example in the bible.

The gospel of John is often recommended for new Christians to learn all that Jesus did and said.

Because it is the life of Jesus, the gospel is the most important book and st Mark's is the shortest.
