What was it about The Simpsons in the 90's that made it so great?

Here's my take on this Q.

The Simpsons was a good show back in the 90's. The problem with it slowly going downhill after that is... How do you try to keep it going after 11 seasons, when everything that needs to be said and everything that's truly funny has already been done, without repeating yourself ? Meanwhile... One of the shows original creators is off doing a similar show on the same network for the same audience by the same production company (Seth Mac Farlane is doing exactly the same thing right now, twice).

IMHO : They shoulda killed The Simpsons and continued forward with Futurama instead.

Its cause it was kinda controvercial and had mildly bad language and now its just not as shocking since shows like southpark and family guy are a little more controvercial and now the simpsons are more of an all ages show and has just kinda gettin worn out

That's what the public found funny back then they started in the 90's as a skit in another show

Conan O'Brien and a host of other creative, talented people were on the writing staff in the 90s.

Those people aren't there anymore.

You can get high and had less of a chance of getting caught back then
