what is Ventura, Ca like?

I have a job prospect in Port Hueneme, CA. can anyone tell me what the area is like?

I am mid/late 20s, Engineer, male, single.

I like art, music, bars, theatre, ect.

is there any city feel there? I like being able to walk to nightlife. I dislike suburbia.

how about the ratio of men to women? I know that areas near military bases can sometimes be a sausage fest.

what is the feel of the area? are people mostly hipsters like portland? surfers like so-cal? retired people like phoenix?

would a young person fine the area fun? or would it be more like one of those places where everyone is married and trying to keep up with the Jones'? inform me!

Thanks

Ventura is a sprawling city, with all kinds of choices. Yes, there is a lot of suburbia, but the Old Town district is an odd mixture of great bars and bistros next to thrift stores and historical buildings. There is a variety of good clubs, and some entertainment venues that attract big names. You don't see a lot of military in town. Marina living is a good choice, appealing, but pricey.

Your best bet is to make time to visit, but I think anybody could find their niche in Ventura. And of course, there's the perfect weather.

All of Ventura is nice, the weather is perfect and the people are nice. All of the beach towns have plenty of young people of both sexes.Oxnard has become a very nice middle income town as well as the city of Ventura itself.
