is this a sign of death?help please?

my friends grandmother when ever she sleeps in the day time she can't wake up.she is aware of what is going on around her but her eyes won't open..she sometimes make sounds or call out to her family to come and wake her,she at time tell them to shake her so she will be awake<sometimes it takes a while before her eyes will open,whenever she tell them to wet her face it works.why is this happening to her?how come she knows everything that is going on but her eyes wont open..p.s if she does not get up right away she falls back into it.
