There is no "best" antenna for all locations, and describing antennas as having a "range" is mostly marketing.
Antenna requirements depend on location.
Anyway, it is very unusual to get reliable TV reception with an indoor antenna at 50 miles.
But you can find out some information at: http://www.tvfool.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper...
For example If you lived in New Buffalo, IN, the results would look something like this: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=2...
Which looks remarkable good considering the distance to the transmitters.
In that case I would look how big an outdoor directional UHF antenna I could fit in the apartment and the direction the signals come from (as in, what do the TV signals have to go through to get to the antenna). Add a good pre-amp between the antenna and TV.
This is not "buy it at Walmart and plug it in" kind of stuff.

You mean you already have a digital antenna with shielded 300 ohm. The same antenna that you received the Simpsons with two years ago allowing you to watch it on your Analog TV on say channel 9 (then transmitting an analog signal), will let you receive the Simpsons today watching on your HDTV digital set on the same channel 9 transmitting a series of 1's and 0's (a digital signal).

Indoor antenna 50 miles is a non-starter. You'll need a serious outdoor antenna and very probably a preamplifier too. Go to http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx to see what antenna you need for your location. Satellite or cable might be a better option.

A 50 mile range is stretching it.....You would need a good outdoor antenna with an amplifier, and the distance is a bit far..You are good if you even get 25 miles.. A strong digital signal is needed for HDTV reception..
