does it cost more for two color non-natural hair dying?

I am deciding whether or not to dye my hair a very noticable virbrant two tone of a single color. What I mean is, there are two shades of it, one brighter one darker and I want it distinctly alternated in wide bands, probably like 2-3 bands of each color across my head. Anyhow, I wanted some info from more in tune people since I am a guy and know next to nothing.

1.does my natural hair make an impact on the choice?

2.how long will the color last, and how long before fading or discoloration becomes noticable.

3.Do different dyes color better than others?

4.How much might a job like this cost?(I know its hard to say, but is it more than something more normal?)

5.I live in the San-fransico bay area, I am willing to make a decent trip for it, if there are any places you know if you live nearby, I'd like to know, my color choice is very specific.

Update:

6.is it safe to straighten my hair after it is colored?

    This is kind of complicated!

    1. Yes, your hair color will affect the outcome. Lighter hair will give lighter results, and the reverse. It's much easier to dye light hair dark than dark hair light, or even another dark shade. If you have red in your hair, any red in the dye will show up more. The colors usually come in "tones" Like "warm" or "cool", so if you're a redhead at all, go with the "cool" ones.

    2. Colors come in 3 basic "strengths" of permanence: temporary (Nice & Easy) washes out after a few times, semi-permanent - lasts longer...not sure, and permanent, which stays until your hair grows out--you'll see roots in about 2-3 weeks and the color will last around a month to 2 months, depending what kind you get.

    3. Yes. Usually, the more "harsh" they are, the better they color (I'm not talking about the kind salons use, where they strip all the color out first, but the ones you can get in stores). For instance, "Natural"-type ones won't cover as well or as long but ones like L'Oreal "Excellence" will do a good job.

    4. Each box (and if your hair is no longer than shoulder length you only need one box), can run from $4.00, to around $9.00.

    5. Not sure--I'm on the East Coast.

    6. Generally, not for awhile. If you look at the packages, they'll say to wait a few days before straightening or perming your hair. I think some don't want you to do it at all. It depends on the product.

Warning: the chemicals in these are usually pretty harsh, so watch your eyes and your clothes and the sink and floor...and so on! Once it get on there, it stains. And it can really mess up your eyes -- rinse it out immediately if you get any in it.

Make sure do a test first, like the directions say, in case you're sensitive to the colors.
