Just curious. What would have happened to this country had Gore been president?

It's always hard to say how things would be different if things were different. But there's good reason to believe 9/11 might not even have happened if Gore were president. Bush was warned something was likely to happy by Clinton's security people, and chose to ignore the warnings. Gore might have prevented it.

Bill Clinton came within one year of balancing the budget. If Clinton had been president one more year, we would have had a balanced budget. It's reasonable to believe Gore would have followed the same agenda. Clinton's plan would have had the entire national debt paid of by 2009. Frankly I don't know if that would even have been possible, but at least the Democrats wanted to go in that direction. Bush, like Reagan and his dad, ran as a strict budget hawk but once in office behaved as if debt simply didn't matter.

Gore would have gone after Bin Laden, not just used him as a justification to start two badly-planned wars we couldn't win. Gore was at least a realist who would have listened to the military experts who said we simply didn't have enough troops to pacify and stabilize countries as big as Afghanistan or Iraq. Bush didn't listen to them, he listened to naive ideologs at PNAC (Project for a New American Century) who had no real military experience. Gore would have realized that you can't fight terrorism by fighting a war against a country, because terrorism isn't a country, it's a technique. He would have had a covert operation go after Bin Laden, just as Obama finally did. Gore wouldn't have lied to get us into Iraq, mostly because the Republicans wouldn't have let him. (The Republicans make a much better opposition party.)

Let's face it, Gore was kind of dull. Competent people often are. Bush was able to sell an attractive lie over an ugly or 'inconvenient' truth. But Bush didn't really know what he was doing. He let a handful of advisers run the whole show and he really had no way of telling whether they knew what they were doing or not. Gore would have at least been in charge of his own policies, his own administration. He would have been able to do unscripted interviews where he explained his own ideas in his own words, something Bush was never able to do.

oh you mean the guy who won the popular vote in 2000 and should actually have been president if it werent for some 230 year old electoral college nonsense?

we wouldnt have had the financial crisis that came from deregulation

and i dont think he could have stopped 9/11. that was going to happen either way.

our economy would have kept booming, no tax cuts for the rich, he wouldnt have gotten us into 2 BS wars, and 9/11 prrrobably wouldn't have happened... (keyword - probably). we DEFINITELY would have never had a recession either.. kinda sucks that the popular vote doesn't always win it under the shitty electoral college rules
