Is Prince Charles really such a self indulgent deluded idiot as he appears?

Does anyone really want him to be King so that he can continue in his fantasy world of believing he is born to be a great leader? Sad, spoilt and somewhat stupid is what he appears to most people and rather embarrassing - although his brothers are even more crass. He is totally unaware of the realities of life and his ghastly development at Poundbury, Dorchester, has desecrated the landscape for miles around and built probably one of the most tacky housing estates in Europe - a monument to his greed.

Update:

He is a vain and self indulgent man who might appear bright when you compare him with the rest of the brood but I personally hope the monarchy ends when the Queen dies.

Deluded, yes. Self indulgent, yes. An idiot? Possibly, but that is in his private life that became so public. There is nothing wrong with organic farming, except the cost of the produce. I do know that the upmarket, Sainsbury's supermarket chain, refused to stock anymore of his organic produce because it did not meet their standards in quality, appearance and price. I am NOT a fan of Prince Charles but, that is because of the way he conducted his personal life and his meddling in things that did not concern him, even though I share his sentiments on modern architecture. His charities are very successful and help a lot of people.

What has the development at Poundbury to do with greed? Why has it been built? For him to store his wealth. Does he lock it up with guards in front of it so that nobody can go in? Why do you think it's there?

No need to post yet another pro Charles answer. You've already got enough. Just one word: Charles might seem to be strange to people who don't know him, and especially to people who claim to know him but haven't got a clue of who he is. Charles is intelligent and caring, yes mind you he is! He will be a great king, certainly different from Her Majesty (God bless her and let us have her for some time yet) but Charles will be a good king. He is wealthy, yes. But that doesn't make him an idiot or a careless git. He's being misjudged for all his life.

Don't break a bar over somebody you don't know.

Source(s): I know him, and thumb me down a thousand times: it won't change one bit.

Honey, in this day and age, the monarch doesn't NEED to be a "great leader" and isn't. You are vastly overvaluing the position.

You are also vastly undervaluing Charles. He's the best-educated, best-prepared Prince of Wales in history, and is probably smarter than 75% of his fellow British citizens. He may not be that realistic, and he's not a genius or even mildly brilliant, but believe me, in terms of basic, raw intellect, he far exceeds the general run of humanity.

Poundbury, whatever its problems, isn't about his "personal greed". If you're going to criticize Charles, at least do it on solid grounds. Your claim that it's "one of the most tacky housing estates in Europe" is an indication that you haven't spent a lot of time examining European housing estates. Really: how much do you know about the architectural and social design issues involved? Can you even NAME three architects or architectural teams working on similar issues? How many serious journal articles on New Urbanism have you read? Can you cite their authors and critique Poundbury from their, professional point of view?

Charles isn't brilliant, as I said, but many of his environmental stances, once regarded as crankish are now being seen as prescient. Perhaps you need to do a little more serious research on the issues that matter to him. Otherwise -- who knows? You may end up looking stupider than you ever anticipated, as you are left behind.

You clearly do not know the real him. In fact, he is the opposite. People close to him (that I have spoken to) adore him. I have seen the lands of the Duchy of Cornwall, particularly in Dorset - Poundbury isn't bad at all. He is very caring of his tenants, and mucks in at harvest time with the farmers; working alongside them. He was not spoiled - in fact, he needed to work on his Duchy as that was his only source of income. It was training for him - if he could not manage his own finances, he would be unable to do the nations. In fact, he has done very well.

I don't see he is presented that way at all.

Do you really think that someone who has dedicated much of their time to learning how to produce farm products organically, selling them, and dedicating the proceeds to charity, as self-indulgent?

    I don't think he's stupid, either.
