according to espns reactions they are about the same back and they are both playing the team they are chasing
yes i will admit that the rays are better than the cardinals but they have to catch a better team than the cardinals do

Tampa Bay is 4.5 games back from the Wild Card, while St. Louis is 5.5 games back. That's why.

Well, the Rays are 7 1/2 games back.. in their division. In the WC, though, they only 4.5 games back. Also, they have 5 more games against the Red Sox in September. This makes it reasonable to think they are "back in it".
