700r4 issue. Urgent.?
I haven't used drive in a while and today i use it and it will not shift past 2nd gear, it begins to vibrate violently at 60. when i put in a new carb the end of last year i kinda jerry-rigged a way to put the tv cable on so i doubt its in the right geometry but is this causing it or is it more serious? Overdrive goes through all gears fine. also i installed a carb and never really hooked up the tv cable properly

the cable is probably the culprit it also operates the t.v valve and if that is not moving correctly or stuck then will give you problems so start at the cable probably by getting the correct one or the carb needs to have the correct linkage for the cable

The TV cable is critical on this transmission. It controls the line pressure in the unit. It also affects early or late shifts. If it is not set correctly you can actually burn out the 3/4 clutch pack. It is better to set it a little tight than too loose. Set it too tight and it won't shift. Set it too loose and you buy another transmission.

Check the fluid level, with the engine and transmission warmed up. Check the level with the engine running. If the level is okay smell the fluids and see if it smells burnt. If it smells burnt in any way change the fluid. It maybe something more sinister, but these are a few places to start.
