Buying a 2004 Ninja 250R Sitting for 2 Years?

As the title explains. I'm looking to buy my first used sportsbike off craigslist. I have about 4 grand saved up from my summer job and I recon I can spend about 1.8grand of it on a bike and stay afloat for the year in college.

Here's the deal.

This is a Kawasaki Ninja 250R 2004. Blue.

The guy is selling for 1600 but he told me he'd take 1400.

In it's current State, it does not run. He says the carbs are probably gunked up.(sitting for 2 years will do that) he hasn't started and the battery on it is currently dead. I already know I'm going to have to clean the carbs, buy new tires, brake fluid, oil, etc. Not a problem. I've incorporated that into my finances.

He said the bike ran fine when he stored it. And the bike had a bit of gas when he stored it. But he mixed fuel stabilizer into it before storage.

So I plan to talk him down to 1000 or 1200 because the bike DOES NOT RUN. The bike had around 6,000 miles.

So i guess what I'm asking. Is it a good deal? And what Can I do to make sure it's ONLY a carb problem, and not something more serious. Jump it with starter fluid? I've heard that works.

Thanks!

eh with all the stuff its going to need i would say dont pay over 1000. i have a friend who is selling a 04 ninja 250 with around 5k miles for $1400 and its in great condition and needs nothing. my point is i bet you can find one thats already running and in the end come out on top.

    good luck man!

If it looks like 6K miles I would say go for it. Don't go overboard at first in messing and fixing. Drain the carbs and the gas tank and add new gas, buy a new battery and give it a try. It might just run perfect. Ive stolen alot of great bikes from people too lazy to get them running and looking their best before selling.

i do no longer agree that each and each physique new riders will drop their motorbike. it extremely is only my opinion, yet of each and every of the recent riders i understand in basic terms one has dropped their motorbike and that adjust right into a 5'4" women those that had in no way been on a bike and offered an 1100 cruiser as her first experience. The 250R is for novices or people who only desire incredibly stable gas mileage and/or low purchase and coverage expenses. in case you desire a clean motorbike, get a clean motorbike. No offense to absolutely everyone right here, yet i could take any suggestion from this web site with a grain of salt. YA has greater incorrect information related to motorcycles than any talk board i've got ever seen. so a techniques as paying for a used motorbike because of the fact a clean one might get scratched up...WTF. Who desires to purchase a shitty looking scratched up used motorbike besides? And in case you purchase a effective looking used motorbike you would be only as disenchanted if it gets scratched up or dented. in case you are going to be able to additionally discover an '08 Ninja 250R they are as much less costly as many used motorcycles besides. it is your funds so only forget approximately what actual all human beings right here thinks and persist with your man or woman instincts.
