Ecommerce Store Not Making Sales?

Hi all! I set up my first ecommerce store (selling physical products) and on launch in 24 hours I got 170 targeted visitors via buyer keywords.

However I haven't had a single sale. I would have expected a minimum of one or two sales from that.

I did get one email from someone simply saying they wanted to buy a handbag, so I suspect that I don't have enough big calls to action or buy buttons. Maybe it's not clear enough.

I also offer free shipping, 90 day money back guarantee and a free gift for those who spend over a certain amount. Plus up to 60% off retail price on items. All this is pretty clear on the front page.

Does anyone here have any general tips for converting visitors into buyers in an online store? Or any reccomended guides I can buy on the topic? Thank you very much for your help!

Converting visits into sales is not only influenced by calls to action. You can have a big buy button, if the users don't feel comfortable and safe they will never buy. One other aspect to consider is the quality of your 170 visitors. If all of them are lookers, they are worthless.

How to increase you conversion rate?

First, build up a highly targeted Adwords marketing campaign at the products level. Choose your keywords cautiously and make sure they will bring buyers to your site and not lookers. There is a big difference between the keyword "tents" and "buy tents" or "tents for sale". The first one applies to anyone searching information about tents no matter if they want to buy or not. The two other keywords tend to bring buyers to your site due to the terms "buy" and "for sale".

Then, when your potential customers get to your home page, they seek reassurance, they need to be sure there is a real business behind the scene that will provide the goods as advertised. A few aspect that can help increase your conversion rate :

    (1) Is the site's colors well harmonized.

    (2) When you open the page, where does your eyes go first? Do you understand right away what the site is actually selling?

    (3) How good is your about page? This page is one of the most important to reassure your customers.

    (4) Do you have a contact form and a toll free number displayed in your header?

    (5) Do you have a SSL certificate and the seal clearly displayed in your footer?
