What are some interesting facts about Brain Cancer?

Totally go with Tia on this. GBM is the most deadly brain tumor, with survival generally less than 2 years. A friend of mine lived almost 2 years. It just kept growing, even with all the different chemos. A friend of mine's little boy lived a little over 2 years and once it grew back, there was no stopping it.

I had oligoastrocytoma, grade 3. I had symptoms for at least 3 years before I was diagnosed and it's been 3 years since I was diagnosed. My average time to regrowth is 5 years. My average survival-10 years. Many symptoms are mistook for other problems, high bp, eye twitches, shimmers in vision, tingly fingers, feeling something in your ear, deja vu, etc. One fact is, most are diagnosed after a seizure. You want a very interesting example of survival? Look up my friend George Plym. He's been studied by drs. He's known around the world. He was dx at the age of 12, in 1967 and has had multiple surgeries and treatments. He got lymphoma from radiation. He go chemical meningitis from chemo. He now has a small tumor that's being watched and he also is missing a chunk of skull, replaced with titanium mesh. He also has skin cancer on his head that can't be treated because his skin is so fragile. Nice guy.

Brain Cancer Interesting Facts

I have a friend who has glioblastoma multiforme. He suffered with massive headaches not relieved by painkillers. He had a brain scan where it was found he had a tumor the size of a baseball - probably been there for a couple of years. He had surgery, chemo and radiation. He's now developed 2 new tumors - they are affecting his eyesight and coordination. There is nothing more the doctors can do for him. He was diagnosed less than a year ago, and isn't expected to see the end of this year.

There are different types of brain tumors, so maybe you could do a bit of research on the different types - the symptoms they produce, what part of the brain they affect and different types of treatments.

Brain cancer is the leader cancer in children if that is interesting. More kids are diagnosed with BC every day than any other. Also its a cancer that gets less notice than others.

probably the previous answer is better than my limited knowledge of my father's brain cancer,tumor. in his case dx was not timely. until he started major headaches, Dr's. didn't look for it. by then it was inoperable. took radiation/chemo. then became totally paralyzed on left side. bed fast. home to die. morphine for pain. died in less than 2 yrs from first symptoms: exhaustion, slight headaches, and a tiny loss of his excellent coordination.
