A question about geneaology. My family tree has a missing piece.?

Now. My Grandfathers military records were destroyed in the 1973 fire at the main records holding facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Where else might be a good place to find this information? For free?

The National Archives, or your State archives may have a copy. I tried to obtain a copy of my fathers military records for many years and it was only through the National Archives that I now have a copy

The National Archives should have the information you desire. Depending on where you live, there may be a branch near you. I know there is one in Kansas City, Missouri.

Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American legion will help you get in touch with people who served with him. The military buddies can help you put together your Grandfathers military record.
