What counts as a good justification for things like goals and standards in x,y,z disciplines?

    I think the question can only be addressed directly by circular logic.

    A philosophy is required to determine what is reasonable. So, defending values becomes an exercise in ones philosophy chasing itself to conclude something which is partly dependent upon its premises.

    Justification must always be rooted in the relativism which relates it to the real world, and loses meaning in the purely abstract realm.

    When in Rome, have your cake and eat it too.
