How much should I jog?

I want to get into better shape, and I heard that running is one of the best ways to do that. So, I thought that maybe this week I'd try jogging around my neighborhood (lots of people walk/run/bike ride etc). But I was wondering what a good reasonable distance to run would be? Like a mile? More? Less? I don't know.. I'm 17, and I'm not over-weight or anything. Just a semi self conscious girl trying to get some confidence:)

Try going slow. Such as running 1 minute, walking 1 minute, and every other day (don't run every day, especially if you're new to running) and then increase until your time gets shorter (run 12 minutes, walk 2 minutes) and then until you are running nonstop for 30 days. Usually that takes about 9 weeks.

sure there's a change. consuming then going for walks isn't continually a well notion, as you shouldnt jog on a whole belly - its no longer well to your well being, and going for walks for a protracted interval of time on a whole belly would possibly make you consider ill and unwell. going for walks earlier than consuming will develop your urge for food, so you'll consume extra after a well jog, which can also be well for you. nevertheless, there demands to be a stability among the each and that is essential. going for walks on a whole belly isn't well, however going for walks on a absolutely empty belly will imply you'll no longer have as so much vigour and you'll get worn out rapidly. So the superb factor is to have a snack like an hour and even part an hr earlier than you jog, (no longer five minutes earlier than, considering that if you happen to rush meals then jog it could deliver you indigestion) lke a banana or vigour bars to deliver you lasting vigour to your jog. additionally remeber to drink vigour beverages too, and drink tons of water.

Start with what is easy and comfortable and increase the difficulty from there. If you can run a mile, time it and research plans to lower the time. If you want to run farther research 5k, 10k, or half marathon training plans.

If you want confidence make it fun and go out and beat people in races, you'll gain confidence and maybe like it enough to continue doing it.
