34 weeks and labor, has anyone had their baby this early?
I am 34 weeks pregnant and I believe i am going into labor. I know many of you will say something about false labor but, i have lost my mucus plug two and a half weeks ago and went into prelabor and the E.R had to slow me down. I am having very bad pelvic pressure (worse then normal) i cannot eat without getting sick. Laying down on my left side and drinking water do not help, propping my feet up and such nothing takes the pain away. I have pains in my back that travel to the front of my stomach, and I can feel myself contracting and they are getting stronger and a little bit closer together but not much. This has been going one for a day straight without any signs of stopping. I do not want to go to the hospital and just get sent back my doctor has told me to wait so that is what I am doing. My question is has anyone had their baby this early if so how long was it in the hospital? Did it go home with you ect. ? I am very worried and I am doing everything I can to slow this down and keep him in here longer. Doctor has said at every visit that he is very very healthy and he is bigger then most babies at his age, and that if i had him early he seems to be very strong and he is certain he will make it. But, i would feel safer with someone letting me know something with experience.

My children both have friends whose siblings were born very early.
My daughter's friend had a sister born at 29 weeks. She was in the hospital for eight and a half weeks. Currently, she is almost sixteen months. Had she been born on time, she would have been within normal range developmentally. As it is, she is about four months behind.
My son's friend also had a sister who was born at 27 weeks. She was in the hospital almost four months and came home on oxygen. I hear she is doing quite well now that she is nearing the one year mark.

I know that you don't want to go to the hospital but if your doing all of these things and nothing is helping and your still in pain I would go. I just had my daughter at 34 weeks she is doing great!!! granted she is still in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit but she is doing great. She needs to learn how to suck on a bottle so they are tube feeding her until she catches on to how to bottle feed. They try to bottle feed her once a week she is now out of the incubator and into a regular bassinet which is great I can finally hold her. Because I was so sick with Preeclampsia which is a condition that you can get when your pregnant it's extremely high blood pressure and a sign of it is swelling in the feet and legs. I could not get out of bed to see my baby and she was in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit so she could not come up to see me I wasn't able to see her until I wasn't on bed rest anymore which was 5 days after she was born it was very fustrating!!! But my point is there are so many new advances for babies that are premature now that a baby can thrive at 34 weeks it's going to take some time but your baby will be just fine take it from a mom who knows and has just gone through it my baby is still in the hospital but I got discharged it's hard but I try to go and see her as much as I can. But don't worry everything will turn out just fine you'll see and you will have a beautiful baby to love and enjoy!

I know a child that was born at 33 weeks and is fine and healthy though this was a few years ago and medical science is improving all the time, she was born at home and the midwife saw no reason to admit her to hospital as she was fine but small (these days she'd end up in though). That was 42 years ago and my mum reminds me every year on my birthday about my birth. Your baby will be fine, the doctor is happy, if there were grounds for concern they'd have kept you in and monitored you so just relax and take things easy.Good luck

My twins were born at 36 weeks 3 days, they were in the NICU for 5 days and I brought them home no problem. If your baby was born today it would no doubt spend some time in the NICU, but hopefully not long :) I think our NICU wanted babies to be there until they hit 37 weeks gestational age. Mine were breathing room air and taking feeds just fine.
Go to the hospital if you're nervous though, if they send you home they send you home. At least you went and got checked.

"Making it" is not the same as having a healthy, thriving baby. I have had two early babies. Call the doctor now and do everything you can to stall this labor. If you have not had a doctor check you for signs of labor, you are NOT doing everything you can.

probably. Best to get checked. I had my son at 36 wkd and I had on and off essential agony however I felt like I had a knife in my again regularly. Not like agonizing agony simply this discomfort that I could not do away with. The braxton hicks contractions can also be calmed with a sizzling bathe or heating pad. Try one and if it do not support definately pass get checked.

At 34 weeks your baby has the same chance of surival as a full-term baby. He will be very lean and need to gain weight as his most important issue.
