Are Hemis over rated?

Yes they are ver rated. It was a design that worked good but didnt really make that much power than the other guys wedge heads in the 60's and 70's. During that time in history it was a horsepower war on. The big 3 was fighting for top HP numbers and trying diff things. Diff head design, overhead cam V8s, oiling systems, cam sizes, compression ratios

The big 426 hemi made 425 HP with two 4bbl carter carbs

The chevy L72 427 made 425 HP

The chevy L88 427 made 435 HP

Ford super cobra jet 429 made 420-460 HP

So as you see, engines around the same cubic inch size and year range was making about the same power with hemi or wedge heads

The new hemis of today, aint even true hemi engines. They have more of a polyspherical chamber than a hemispherical chamber

Yeah I think they are they were super powerful back in the 60s. The 426 Hemi in the 60s made a huge impact. But to todays standards i think it a bit overrated i think its just as good as like DOCH or Vtec. but the way Dodge puts the hemi logo on some of there cars i think its a bit overrated. But allot of the hemi motors are race motors and thats part of the reason why there so fast not necessarily the hemi.

An actual Hemi hasn't been made in decades, Today's Hemi's are nothing more than brand recognition, and Waaaaaaaaaaay over rated at that.

older 392CID and 426CID hell no.newer 5.7 and 6.1 are not a true hemi.a friend of mine has a hemi magnum and beats the crap out of it for last 6 years.and still runs strong.
