98 Toyota Corolla not shifting into 2nd?
Intermittently has reverse and 1st, but won't shift into 2nd gear. When problem occurs speedometer drops to 0. Code for vehicle speed sensor. This vehicle has a VSS on transaxle. VSS is an analog sensor that sends signal to instrument cluster, which converts it to a square wave and sends to PCM. Looking for someone who has a lot of experience with Toyotas to give advice if it's usually the VSS or instrument cluster. I know how to diagnose this condition but whenever I have vehicle I cannot get it to act up. Just asking if it's more common for speed sensor or instrument cluster. I understand wiring or pcm could also be an issue but doens't seem very likely to me.

The relay clicks to cycle on the compressor, then turns off again almost instantly. It does this every 5 seconds or so.

Are the little 3 gal ones they sell at walmart enough to run an impact wrench? Not shop work. Just messing around in driveway.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoWhere can I get a generic refrigerator start relay?
It's for a Welbilt refrigerator. Model W 550 AX. I guess the Welbilt company was sold in 1994 so I can't find an OEM part. I need to find just a generic relay to use for it.

1 AnswerGarden & Landscape9 years agoHow to keep flies off plant?
I have a habanero plant I had to bring inside because of the cold (34 in Florida). There are several little tiny flies all around it and on the dirt. They're like fruit flies. Is there any household thing I could spray on it to kill or repel the flies without hurting the plant?
5 AnswersGarden & Landscape9 years agoCould i get in trouble for this?
This guy i used to know gave me this piece of musical equipment months ago. It's just been sitting in my apartment and i haven't seen him since. I started to suspect it could be stolen. If i ask police about it could i be in trouble for having it?
7 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoHigh pitched whistling sound coming from a/c compressor clutch?
98 chevy malibu 3.1 liter v6 102k miles on it. The whistling seems more prevalent when rpm is below 1500. When i took belt off and turned by hand it made noise. Also, could compressor be bypassed with a non a/c belt?
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoWould adding more yeast make wine ferment faster?
I put 3 packets of bakers' yeast in a 1 gallon distilled water/2 lbs sugar solution. I know this isn't going to taste good. Anyway, i have a tube going from the cap on the jug into a cup of water to serve as an air lock. This is day 4 and there is an almost constant stream of bubbles coming out of the tube. It just seems like it's going fast. Did the extra yeast cause this?
1 AnswerBeer, Wine & Spirits9 years agoWhat is this hole in my oven for?
Underneath the back left burner of my electric stove/oven there's a 2 inch diameter tube that just goes straight into the oven. What is this for and would it be bad to cover it? It seems like it'd save electricity to keep all the heat in instead of letting some out constantly.
3 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)9 years agoIf the hot and neutral wires of a household AC current are connected to an iron rod stuck in the ground?
can someone be shocked by touching the rod while it is stuck in the ground? I've heard you can get earthworms to surface using a setup like this. I wouldn't touch it myself or pull it out while it was in the ground connected to an outlet. Just wondering in case someone accidently touched it.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs10 years agoWhat is the neutral wire for in a household AC circuit?
I am used to only a positive and negative charge in DC automotive circuits. What is the neutral wire for in a household 3 prong outlet? I am pretty sure the larger prong in a polarized outlet is the hot wire and the bottom wire is ground. What is the neutral wire for and if ground is removed can a neutral wire still shock you?

6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs10 years agoWhat is the advantage of having two intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder?
In a DOHC (dual cam) engine. It seems like it would be easier to just make a single valve open more than to add a 2nd camshaft.
