If the hot and neutral wires of a household AC current are connected to an iron rod stuck in the ground?

can someone be shocked by touching the rod while it is stuck in the ground? I've heard you can get earthworms to surface using a setup like this. I wouldn't touch it myself or pull it out while it was in the ground connected to an outlet. Just wondering in case someone accidently touched it.

If you connect hot and neutral to an iron rod, you (hopefully) will trip a circuit breaker or pop a fuse, but not before a very brief light show.

If you're not familiar with electricity, don't mess with it!

I've heard that it works but when we tried it 50 years ago it did not work. We had better results using water and a cover over the wet area. Also a flashlight at night on a lawn r freshly watered area like a golf course got us many more than the electrical trick.

Also if you do that with with a hot and neutral without an isolation transformer you will trip the gfi every time.

If you search "worm shocking devices" a lot of sites will come up explaining how to make one along with a several sites that mention deaths caused by the devices.

There is such a thing as worm grunting that has a similar effect on worms that the electricity does. As a matter of fact there are worm grunting festivals to see who can get the most worms. Check the following page and check the sites that come up. http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UTF-8&fr=crmas&p... It does work, I use to do it for a pet Robin I had. I grunted the worms and he ate them. Good Luck
