Not in most states. Many consider them illegal to own and most consider them used in any physical altercation to be assault with a deadly weapon. You also have to consider the fact that brass knuckes hurt you about as bad as they hurt the other guy when you use them. It's real easy to break your fingers and knuckles punching someone with these kind of weapons. If you really want self defense try tabasco sauce. I know it sounds silly but if you know you're going to have a problem rub a good amount in your hand beforehand (like handwash) then wipe your hands over the guys eyes. Even in small quantities this stuff will do the trick and can take down 2 or 3 people if you're quick and smart plus it doesen't count as a weapon if used in self defense. I used this as a teenager against some bullys and found it effective but be careful to keep your hands away from your eyes untill you've washed them thouroughly with soap afterwards.

It's a finger ring the goes on one finger. The actual "knuckle duster" is only 1-1.5 cm wide. It's a deceptive photograph because you can't quite see the ring body. It's basically a charm ring with a knuckled duster shaped symbol on it. It will do nothing more than a normal man's ring in a fight.
That's why it's only 4 quid.

Dusters aren't for defence. Leastways, I've never heard of anyone carrying them for any other purpose than to hurt someone.

I would recommend you convince him to join a martial arts club rather than carry around illegal weapons, especially in Britain. The British don't have very tolerant laws on that. Even if he fights people off, the legal system will be on his back for using disproportionate force.

Of all the things to buy for self defense, knucks are one of the worst. They are very effective weapons, but will always be seen as felonious to law enforcement. It's fine for "novelty" purposes, but don't buy them unless you want your friend to wind up hurting someone and going to jail. Buy him a month worth of training at a boxing gym instead; he'll carry his fists with him everywhere he goes, and those aren't illegal.

i wouldnt buy it him because if he is caught carrying it, he will get in trouble, it is illegal to carry a knuckle duster in the uk
