windows xp 64 bit not installing on Hard drive, error message?

hi all,

firstly details about my PC:

• AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ 2.71 GHz

• 3.00GB of RAM

• NVIDIA Geforce 8400GS

Ok the problems is that (as you PC experts will already know) i cant use my current 32 bit windows XP and get all my ram showing, as i have currently 4gb (looking to increase to 8GB soon) but my 32 only reconige 3gb; so to fix this problem i bought a Windows XP 64 bit cd (without manuels etc) and put it on and booted up my PC with a blank HDD but after all the PC spec at the start it just says:

'NTLDR is missing

Press Ctrl Alt Del to Restart'

i have also selected the cd drive to start up from (via bios i think it is) but still this meassage come up and at this point i cant do anything other then restart.

Please help and let me know what to do, i am not very PC 'pro', but as i have in the past installed old OS's i thought i could do this but stuck, so please help me if you can,

many thanks,

Suly

Update:

hi again,

i didnt get windows 7 64 bit cause i heard there were many problems with that i was told, and that it uses more of my PC up then XP (and ive already been informed that it already ain't the fastest PC going)

thanks

Whoever told you Windows 7 has more problems than XP doesn't know a lot about computers. Windows 7 will run smoothly with your specs. You should have bought at least an upgrade version of Win 7 Home Premium. Too bad you wasted your money on a 9 year old operating system. Big blunder.

Anyway, it's already under the bridge. To fix your 'NTLDR is missing" problem, follow this link:

PS: Only people who want to stick with XP are those who don't have at least the hardware to run Windows 7. In your case, you do have it!

will be hardware or maybe BIOS appropriate. have you ever checked the motherboard forums to be certain if others have had the placement? perchance a BIOS replace will be sensible (yet on condition that you locate postings describing a similar situation). My next theory will be to substantiate the means furnish is able to helping your configuration. perchance because the device is setting up, the device begins to attraction to bigger means and it fluctuates and motives the hangup. If underpowered, the device can run slightly hotter. After that, are you able to ensure that the factors are all seated properly? attempt to reseat the memory and video card and run through again. If that fails, will be time to the contact the motherboard seller promptly for help. Given you've tried with diverse drives and both IDE and SATA, i don't think of that's a disk appropriate situation.

So why in the HELL would you get XP 64 instead of Windows 7 64 bit?? XP 64 was awful. It had crap for driver support and was only worthwhile for specific things.

You have to boot from the cd using the command that pops up on screen. (usually you have to press one of the F keys or the delete key.). From there select cd rom. It will say press any key to boot from cd and press any key. After that it will load than follow the instructions to install windows.
