Why do Americans feel the need to remake great movies ?
Just saw a trailer for the remake of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'. Why remake, when the movie is not that old. Noomi Rapace was brilliant in the role of Lizabeth.

Part of it is to introduce the film to western audiences, making it more accessible. Another part is that some people are naturally just too lazy to read subtitles (I'm not saying this is exclusive to Americans, I'm from New Zealand and know plenty of people who just can't be bothered) but I'd say the biggest part is the MONEY. They remake it to appeal to Americans and they're likely to earn one hundred times the amount they would have with the original. It's the same reason they remake old films, and dish out sequel after sequel of others until they create a million dollar franchise out of those particular movies.
It lacks a lot of finesse, but not all American remakes are bad. Just the large majority of them.

I always prefer to watch the original version of a film because for me it is often so much better than the remake like take for example planet of the apes now the original is a sci fi classic the story the filming and acting plus the impact that that film had and still does is why its one of my fave sci fi films then compare to the remake and this will be debatable due to the generation gaps but the only thing the remake had over the original was make up and effects but thats all and only due to technology advancements, now take another film like halloween the original will always be the best version you cant knock john carpenter films but rob zombies remake was awesome if not better as it was done by someone that was a fan of the original and wanted to not replace the original but pay homage to it alas the same couldnt be said of the director of the planet of the apes remake but at the end of the day its up to the viewer to decide what is the better version and there are certain films no matter how old they are should never get a remake as they dont need to be but hollywood is greedy

Because we are too lazy to read subtitles.
I loved the Swedish version. Hollywood will just ruin it. I will NOT watch, spend money or give it any credence

I personally hate reading subtitles, you miss out on so much visually and end up with a head ache.
Foreigners make remakes of American films also for the same purpose..
