What is the point of "Like"ing something on facebook?
On facebook, there is a LIKE button that you can press if you like someone's comments; I can understand if you like what somebody said, you press it to show that you agree with them. But what is the point of pressing the "LIKE" button for a TV show, event, or a certain group? What does it show to the person? Why do different businesses, organizations, and TV shows encourage you to go to their facebook page and "LIKE" their page? Also, I have also pressed the "LIKE" button for certain events and groups. Where on my facebook page can I see all the things I have "LIKE" so I can access their pages easily?

there really is no point to it :) i thought the same thing when i joined Facebook. usually, if u like a band, movie, or book, it will go directly into your information page that says things u enjoy. other things will go into the 'other pages' category. it's just interesting to see what people 'like' because there are some really stupid things...one page is 'LFHMSFOAIDMT-laughing so hard my sombrero falls off and i drop my taco' or 'if the world ends in 2012, i've spent my whole life in school............lovely' or 'meowing at cats until they meow back'. but you can also 'like' organizations, projects, your school, or stores. it just shows that u care enough to support them. for instance, u could 'like' local businesses to show support. 'like'ing a page doesn't really have a point. when you like someones status, it just means u found it interesting.

you can think of it as a gauge to how important or how much influence a comment or post has. for businesses and tv shows the like button is very important because when you like their page your joining their page. the people who "liked" or "signed up" means the more people to potentially sell to in the long run. imagine if your page has 20,000 people to see your latest product. could mean a bunch of sales.
another reason it's very important to businesses is because google takes into account the popularity of your social media presence when ranking who's number one for search term. for example if your business sell socks you'd want to rank #1 when people type in socks on google. if you've been able to get a bunch of likes, backlinks, and twitter followers etc. you stand a chance of ranking high which could mean a high number of sales.
like is crucial to success at times.

The point is that for example if you click "like" on McDonalds, it means you like and enjoy eating at McDonalds. Or if you click "like" on Nike, you may like the shoes or other things Nike makes. And you can see all the pages you liked, just click on my profile, then info, and there you go.
