P4 heatsink with C2D?

Hi all,

I have a core 2 duo processor (E8400) which has a TDP of 65W.

I also have an old heatsink lying around that came with my Prescott core Pentium 4 many years ago. That CPU had a TDP of 84W.

Would the heatsink and fan from the P4 cool the C2D even more efficiently? Both heatsinks are stock.

I only ask cos my current HSF is making very odd, loud noises so probably will die soon... Since I have one from the P4 lying around, would it make a decent heatsink for the C2D?

Thanks for looking :)

Is that your P4 active heatsink is socket 775? if 775 then should be no problem, same thing, and same speed, but have to watch out, the older fan, the slower it spin. better get a standard new 775 active heatsink.

No! as long because of the fact the heatsink covers the CPU thoroughly and makes finished touch alongside with your CPU, the heatsink will carry out its purpose. in case you heatsink has a sq. upward push on the backside that's no longer as great or bigger then your CPU get a distinctive Heatsink that does conceal the CPU completely. you intend to verify you sparkling off the heatsink of old grease. sparkling off the CPU then placed a drop of recent heatsink grease on the CPU and unfold it so that's a skinny layer.

As long as its the same size probably yes but why bother a new one is only around a tenner and they come with paste usually, decent paste will cost u nearly that. I got a Cooler Master Hyper TX3 on a special offer for 12 quid inc p&p and with good thermal paste, dropped my lga775 q6600 cpu nearly 20 degrees on load
