buying an older chinchilla?

I want to purchase a 3 year old chinchilla but my mum is convinced that baby ones are better despite no breeders being near me. I'm unsure as they can live over 15 years, 3 isn't that old. What's better to do?

Update:

I would be buying it from its owner.

Shelter dogs need a home more than pet store dogs, right? So chinchillas do too. Rescuing is better. 3 yrs old chinchilla is not very old. I've heard they can be 22 years old. This 3 year old one is probably cheaper, comes with accessories, and used to humans more. Help needy chinchillas. :)

i think its better to listen to your mother

would you be buying the chinchilla from a shop or previously owned its good to find out its temperament and also health first too! :)

I think it should be find. He will probably live another 12 years like you said. If you are going to spend money though I think you should purchase one that is young that way you have that extra three years.
