Why is it said that Angels have wings?

According to the increase.Wings in the bible refer to SYMBOLISM and not Celestial spirits....which do not have wings.

Update:

Cherubim' s are not Angels, they are not real. They are Symbolic. God did not create the heavenly host with wings. They are supernatural beings and have no need for such help to regulate their spirits.

There is scriptural basis for angels having wings.

The angels make from gold on either side of the Ark of the Covenant had wings, for example.

Also, read this passage in Ezekiel, it describes a type of angel (it's also a passage revealing their interdimensional nature... if you're used to that kind of thinking.)

    Ezekiel 1:

5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.

8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.

11 Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.

According to the Ancient Astronaut theory (Which is surprisingly plausible) the gods and angels are really extraterrestrials that posed as gods and guided our culture. The Angels are depicted as having wings, why? It wasn't because they physically had wings, the orientation of the wings in the paintings would not allow flight, it just wouldn't work. Plus, the humanoid body is simply too heavy for flight. The Ancient Astronaut theory states that angels were depicted as having wings, not because they really had them, but because the artists were trying to say: "Hey, these guys can fly!"

So, angels flew in flying saucers and ancient man had no way of describing what they saw, so when they depicted the angels, they gave them the closest thing they could, wings, which symbolized flight.

I think it was an artist concept. Humans do not have wings nor do they have horns. So if an artist wanted to portray goodness he would paint a beautiful woman or a small child in a spotless white dress and long wings. A portrayal of evil would be a buff dude in a leotard with a club in his hand and horns on his head; the dominate Color in the portrait is red.

I've always wondered why I should believe helpless looking woman or a innocent child would have the strength or cunning to defend me in a fight? I guess I'll never know.

There are a number of descriptions in the Bible where angels have wings. Ezekiel and Revelation are two main ones. Also the Chreribim in the tabernacle over the mercy seat have wings.

  • 2Chronicles 5:7

"And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, to the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims:"

    Cherubims are angles

    Exodus 25:20

"And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be."

I have never seen an angel with wings.

Exodus 25:20And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.

    Isaiah 6:2

Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

Angels can come in any form, it is believed that they needed wings because they came from the sky thus the need to fly. Today we know trough studying the dogma that they are not physical at all.
