my gym teacher says that "RIGHT AFTER" finishing your exercising you should not immediately drink water?

my gym teacher says that "RIGHT AFTER" finishing your exercise you should not immediately drink water but wait for a duration of 15-25 minutes and then drink water as if the water is directly drunk right after exercise it will make you more fat instead of helping you to lose weight.....so is this right or not please also provide an explanation supporting your answer thanks cause i am really trying to lose weight and i want to do the right thing =)

    Water and fat are not connected, you should be drinking water throughout your training session to keep you hydrated which will aid your performance. depriving yourself of water post training is unnecessary. The higher the intensity of the workout, the more water you'll need. If you're weighing yourself when dehydrated, its not an accurate measure of your weight as it will increase when you rehydrate. Only athletes that need to make a set weight limit will need to dehydrate before weighing themselves (eg boxers). Your weight loss should come from reducing the fat level in your body not water.

    It is irresponsible of a fitness professional to give advice that deprives your body of water when it needs it the most!

    to lose weight, it is best to lose it slowly by making small changes to your lifestyle that will equate to a long term loss of weight. It is possible to lose 1 pound a week just by cutting 500 kcals a day through a combination of diet and exercise/activity, that equates to 3500 kcals a week which is the calorific value of 1 pound of fat! Small changes such as swapping frying for grilling, using a low fat spread instead of butter, eating brown bread/rice (gives extra fibre), also changes in every day activity such as using stairs instead of lift/escalators, if you get the bus any where, get off a stop earlier and walk, ride a bike to work. these changes reduce your calorie intake and increase your calorie expenditure. Activities such as housework and gardening will also burn calories. but to lose weight you need to create a deficit where you are using more calories than you are eating, seek professional advice from someone that can work out how many calories you need each day and the in what proportions.

    Another approach to weight loss, is don't aim at losing a set amount of wait, aim to become more healthy in your lifestyle ,be active, eat a balanced diet and pay more attention to how you look and feel. You might have an aim of losing 20lbs but when you get there you feel too thin, you might feel good half way there but carry on regardless. listen to your body and feel happy with yourself, whatever weight that is then that's the right weight for you.

    He's wrong, that'll just dehydrate you(and no water = no fat burning), we need enough water to keep our bodies going, no water, and your body starts to shut down.

    This is just a very unhealthy, and ineffective tip.

    The only reason I can think off for him to say something like this, is if you weigh-in after the 25 mins cool down, because then you'll basically have lost the water-weight, and haven't put in any new water, so you'll weigh your lightest, thing is though, it's just water-weight.

    In a nutshell, when losing weight you must either create a deficit of calories in your diet, exercise, or dehydrate yourself. To lose weight effectively (and by this I mean, to maintain and nourish your muscle mass, whilst reducing your body fat percentage so at to look more athletic or muscular) you must either eat close to your daily calorie limit -/+ 100 calories and exercise* at least twice per week, OR, create a small deficit in your daily calorie total of no more than 250 calories per day and exercise*. (* the intensity and type of exercise you do will also matter but I wont go into detail).

    The other way to lose weight is to dehydrate yourself. Which professional bodybuilders sometimes use as a technique to make them look more muscular before a big competition. They do not literally stop drinking but they do monitor closely how much fluids they take in. With practice it can make a aesthetic difference (hence why body builders do it), but it also makes a person cranky and prone to headaches and sickness. (it's not recommended at all, ever had sunstroke?).

    A persons body fat percentage will always be unique to that one person, so, no two people can be compared, literally. Water contains two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, H2O. The three main food groups (or macro nutrients as they are referred to in the world of nutrition) are Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats. Carbohydrates are our main source of energy. The cells in which carbohydrates are stored can only hold so much, and once the cells are filled up and excess energy (from the carbohydrate source) is stored as fat (ultimately). Proteins are the building blocks of life/muscle, if eaten in excess, protein is flushed from our bodies, it is not stored as fat. Fats (these poor suckers which are blamed for everything) are really the good guys. Without fats in our diets we would die! Out brain is made up mostly of fatty acids (omega 3/6/9), about 2/3 of the brain is fat, and the brain also burns around 50% + of our daily calorie expenditure! Fat cells are also used as energy, our secondary source compared to the ones carbohydrates use. When fat cells are full, and we eat more fat than they can store, we do not make more fat cells, our bodies break down the excess fat in the blood.

    The little known fact (well actually it's widely known but for some reason not many people know this) is that when we are young and growing up, our fat cells have the ability grow as well, they swell up like a balloon in a way, ie you can have two identical balloons, one you blow up with 15 breaths and the other you blow up but use 25 breaths, so the same type of balloon can hold a different amount. However up to a point in life the fat cells will cease to allow the expansion/amount that they can hold. They in effect have a set limit of fat they can hold! When this point in a fat cells life happens is not entirely known, but most people stop growing by their early 20's, so childhood to late teens could be considered as an important time in a child's life to determine how much body fat they will have later on in life. (the reason why some people can eat tons of food, day and night and not gain weight, and other people remain large all their lives whilst constantly dieting is all down to their 'individual' metabolism, and in part the theory of the fat cell limit, they two go hand in hand as seen in many studies).

    Okay.. I have gone off track a little... lol... but if you read that I hope it makes some sense! back to the water... (assuming you read that bit above) H2O does not contain carbohydrate, protein or fat (in fact all three or those do actually contain minuscule amount of water molecules), so you cannot get fat from drinking water. But the cells that require more water than other, MAY, soak up more water for a certain period of time (a matter of hours and no more) IF large amounts of water are consumed (I'm talking gallons here!). So hypothetically if a fat person drank 2 gallons of water they would look bigger, until the water was flushed from their system; than if a skinny person drank the same amount... BUT who would ever do that? AND!!!! you lose water every second of the day and night through breathing, sweating and cell destruction and genesis.

    Your gym teacher is wrong.

    that is aloud of ****. if you are sweating then you are loosing weight and you need a drink and its only water which you will eventually pee out anyway i go the gym and studio classes every day. and drink loads of water. and when doing my studio classes the instuctor will stop half way through so we all can get a drink. and if you dont drink when you need to you will become dehydrated ad there for drink more
