Parked car spontaneously catches on fire... from rear?
my car was parked for at least 17 hours. I woke up with the rear of my car in flames. the front of my car was not damage. Is this possible that the car just caught fire? like this? from the rear?
thanks all. its a 1996 ford probe. A piece of the exhaust pipe broke off a while back. And regarding the wires....my radio stop working the last 2 months. bought a fuse for it but still didn't work.just need a possible answer of how this could of happen on its own. or someone may have set my car on fire....

No, it's not normal and it doesn't happen all the time, specially after 17 hours.
The absolute only thing that would cause it to catch fire on it's own in the rear would be a short in your fuel pump or wiring harness, which means the car would have to be left with the switch on for 17 hours.

Not after 17 hours. It is possible that it could have caught fire from the exhaust getting too hot and burning the surround/bumper but it would happen pretty quick after parking.

You don't mention make, model, or year, but many late model cars have the battery in the back. An electrical short at the battery terminals would certainly do it.
