Where do I do customs (SYD-LAX-DEN.int'l)?

I'll be going from Sydney (Australia) to Denver CO in two months, and I'm wondering where I go through customs. I'm travelling with United Airlines for the entire trip, and I'll be arriving to Denver International Airport after going to LAX. While I would usually assume I do customs at LAX, I only have 1.5 hours from when I arrive in LAX to when I leave for DEN; the Travel Agent also mentioned I'd be just doing immigration at LAX, and having customs done when I get to Denver, as I'm going to the international section.

So, my question is, do I do customs at LAX or DEN? If I do it at LAX, do I need to take my luggage and have it re-checked? Are they two different things? It's driving me a little insane.

Thanks!

I've never heard of doing immigration at one airport then customs at another airport.

A domestic flight LA to DIA would typically mean the passengers don't arrive at an international gate. I suppose your baggage could be redirected at DIA to a customs facility where you wouldn't get it off the normal carrousel?

I suggest you contact United and ask them.
