Is playing the lottery a sin?

In Christian terms, is it a sin to play the lottery? I was raised in the south, bible belt, in a very religious home and I feel guilty playing the lottery.

Please only constructive, positive responses. I am very serious about this.

It's only a sin if you lose. If you win and tithe 10%, then it's not a sin.

Who are you trusting for your finances??? Are you putting your trust in the lottery??? Or are you putting your trust in God??? Isn't God your provider? Your not being a good steward of the money that God untrusted you with! All the money belongs to God anyway. He owns it all. you need to repent and plant seeds and tithe 10 % of your gross earnings and for all the money you robbed God give an atoning tithe. Ask the Holy Spirit how much atoning tithe you need to give . It could be 5 cents for all we know , but it still is an atoning tithe. Without planting seeds ,you wont receive a harvest! email me if you want more information @ Rob................ No you don't have gambling as casual entertainment!!!!!!!! By doing that ,you are still putting your hopes and trust in the lottery!!!! By that way , you are encouraging people to gamble! That's being luke warm!!! I did pray for a financial blessing and keep having these dreams, so it can't be bad. Would it be considered a sin the if I won and gave my money to the church and orphans? I think not..............Just because you keep getting these dreams about winning the lottery doesn't mean that God wants you to play the lottery!!! It just shows that you constantly have the lottery on your mind! That's all!!! satan is deceiving you into thinking its okay to gamble! But you are gambling with Gods money!!!!!!!!!!! It all belongs to God anyway!!! And IT IS BAD!!! if I won and gave my money to the church and orphans?........... That's a poor excuse to gamble!!! Sorry , but that's wrong thinking!!! God expects you to work for a living!!! Not take your money and put it in a lottery so you can win some other poor souls money!!!!!!!!! In another words, if you win the lottery, you are taking someone elses money who gambled the same as you did!!! You are taking other peoples money through gambling!!!<<<<< I mean come on!!!! Doesn't that make sense to you or what???????????

I'm not quite sure but i think it's a sin if you accompanied it with greed. If you bet on the lottery to be a millionaire then that is a sin. But if you have good intentions then maybe it is another story. Im not really sure. It depends on you. Try asking some priests or pastors :)

It is clearly identified as a sin in Islam because it is gambling. You see, it is a way of making money at the expense of other people losing their money.

Islamic law encourages fair Trade, but not gambling as gambling has many negative effects. We see addictions, loss of wealth, corruption etc.

No. Only being consumed playing the lottery is a sin and what ever consumes you can hurt you if it's not from God.

I don't see anything against it in the bible. Of course we have to watch out for motivations like greed, gambling addiction, neglect of finances, or other extremes. Otherwise, it is a game. I imagine those same religious Pharasees who knock gambling would play monopoly, get in a church raffle, play bingo, call a radio show to win a prize, or other stuff.

There is no such thing as sin, only a complex set or medieval rules devised by a cult of masochistic individuals. To choose to engage in a betting draw like the lottery is of your own choosing and free will.

No, but it is one of the great social experiments of all time. The poor and mostly uneducated use money that could go towards an education for their children to buy tickets that fund (in almost all states) scholarships for the children of the educated middle class.

    Source(s): Thanx and keep playing.

Only if you take an even number 4 times.

This one would be a matter of conscience. There is no scripture that says you shall not gamble. However are there more constructive ways you can use your money?........>

Also you should consider that if none believers see you gamble and you cause them to stumble because of it.....then you should not gamble........>
