Do you feed stray/feral cats?

I have an 'open door' policy with regards the local cats. Fresh food (normally dry) and clean water are always available for the locals, and any 'transients' who are down on there luck. Strange as it may seem, cat fights are few and far between.

Yes. I feed them and give them fresh water everyday. I also treat their environment for fleas and ticks so they are less likely to have health issues from them and I also add FOOD GRADE Diatomaceous earth to their food daily to keep them worm/parasite free. I also trap them and take them to be spayed/neutered so their numbers don't grow. I make shelters for them to use in the winter. Somebody has to do this for all those unwanted out there. I was feeding at one time, 15, now their numbers are down, but an occasional new face comes on the scene.

Yes I do, but it is extremely frowned upon by the rescue leagues. I cannot see any animal starving or freezing. Luckily I have been able to "adopt out" several strays, as long as they were friendly. Thankfully our area has several agencies that will assist in retrieving feral cats. If it is the neighbor's cat I generally do not feed them. You never know if the owner will be angry with you for doing so. Usually I ask the owner if the cat comes begging.

I have no problem with you feeding strays as long as you are spaying/neutering them first.

If you are just feeding them, you are encouraging them to congregate and breed, making more feral kittens which is a bad idea.

Add: why the thumbs down? Spaying or neutering is important because feral populations can boom if you are feeding them. Look around your area to see if there are any TAR (trap, alter-as in spay or neuter, and release) programs that could help you.

    Good luck!

I feed a neighborhood cat. She belongs to someone in my building, but she goes around to everyone and gets some food. She loves Acana, by the way.

My fear would be feeding strays then breeding as most strays are not spayed or neutered, if you have the intention of catching them and spaying or neutering or rehoming I think that is wonderful though.

It takes time for them to rather believe you. it does happen however, all of my cat have been born ferel and with affected person and kindness, they permit us to %. them up, puppy them, carry them around and that they even cuddle on the settee. try placing out to his point. i used to place on the floor and communicate softly to them and do issues they might do like roll over, stretch and purr. (i comprehend sounds like the loopy cat woman, huh?, whether it worked) sturdy success, desire this facilitates.

In my experience, once you feed a cat it's not stray anymore.
