How many miles should I run/jog per day?

I'm looking for an effective distance that I should aim for daily.

Update:

I'm 5'0 and about 125 pounds. My boyfriend is 5'6 and about 190 lbs.

    like 3-4 it would be great

    I started at 1 mile, but I've never been active. You can probably go farther than me. Now I do 2 miles: jog 1 mile, walk half, and jog the other half. I also recently bought weights that I wear on my wrists to give my arms a little workout as well. After that I do 100 crunches.

    1 mile is good if you are running everyday

    if you can 2 would be great
